As a first-time guest and exhibitor at Super Manila Comic Con, the world-renowned Filipino artist is excited and looking forward to being part of the weekend event.

"We’re excited to be part of it," Quiccs said. "Looking forward to meet old and new friends from the comic book scene."

Per his Instagram account, the limited edition "Renold & Rogan" TEQ63 figures will sell for $320 or PHP 18,000 per set.

Quiccs recently posted an announcement to his fans via an Instagram story that the limited edition "Renold & Rogan" TEQ63 figures will be sold at Super Manila Comic Con via lottery. Patrons will have to show their wristbands at Quiccs' booth to avail the lottery tickets.

The lottery of slots to avail the TEQ63 figures will be at 4 pm and the winners must be present during the draw.

Below is the screencap of Quiccs' announcement on his Instagram story:

Quiccs: 'The revamped X-Men with Jim Lee was groundbreaking for me'

As an artist who grew up in the 90s, Quiccs was a fan of X-Men comics. One of the X-Men characters that fascinated him was Juggernaut because of his design and the rarity of its action figures at toy stores.

"I’m amused by his design," Quiccs said. "I used to collect his figures since there’s not much of them."

Not only was Quiccs a fan of the X-Men and Juggernaut but also Jim Lee, who took over the 90s X-title to greater heights and popularity. Back then, every kid wanted to collect and read the X-Men comics at the time because of Lee's dynamic art.

Jim Lee's early run on the X-Men inspired many kids to become comic book artists and mimic his art style.

"Before, the revamped X-men with Jim Lee, it was groundbreaking for me," said the Filipino toy designer. "A lot of kids back then wanted to emulate his style, I was one of them."

The importance of Social Media exposure for local artists

Quiccs Maiquez has been a trailblazer in the graffiti and toy industry. He's been recognized globally as one of the top designers in the Philippines and has since collaborated with brands like Adidas, Johnny Walker, Footlocker, and Jollibee, just to name a few.

Breaking out in the local art scene is hard enough, let alone in the global market. For Quiccs, social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram have been the key factors in introducing his art not just in the art scene but also to global brands like Adidas, and Johnny Walker.

"Low brow artists like me have never had a platform from before, so social media is a great help in introducing us, and collaborations with big brands are a sign that we are being recognized," Quiccs explained. "This would have been almost impossible to pull off when social media didn’t exist before."

With the local art scene now on the rise, Quiccs has some advice for young aspiring artists who want to create art and make a name for themselves in the country:

"Be yourself all the time. Don’t do cold calls for brand collaborations, let them come to you," Quiccs said. "Work on your craft and brand very hard and make them recognize you themselves naturally, even if it takes a lot of time."

Super Manila Comic Con will be on September 7 & 8, 2024 at The Space at One Ayala Mall in Makati City.
